Hi Everyone,

Every September for the past 6 years I have proudly joined Team Wildflower as a virtual rider in The Rodman Ride for Kids. I am asking you to support my ride this year and help children who have lost a parent by giving them the gift of camp.

Though many of you are familiar with my passion for Wildflower’s mission, I believe its genesis is still worth repeating. More than 20 years ago, my best friend and founder of Wildflower, Cyndi Jones, experienced the sudden death of her young husband. Cyndi and I were both young mothers of 3 children, all under the age of 8. I witnessed first-hand the devastation that the death of her husband caused her and her family. While grieving an unspeakable loss, Cyndi was left with the daunting task of becoming sole caretaker and breadwinner for her family. Summers were especially challenging. Through the generosity of camp directors, family and friends, Cyndi’s children were able to attend camp, and I will forever be a believer in its healing power.

I watched the difference that camp made in the quality of Cyndi’s life and in the lives of her 3 children. It allowed Cyndi to work and feel secure in the knowledge that her children were in a safe, fun-filled and nurturing environment. Camp provided her children with carefree summer days, positive role models, and a place to “feel normal” without the constant reminder of loss. Camp offered Cyndi and her children a restorative experience. Cyndi received much-needed time for respite and healing. The camp experience helped her children to begin to rebuild their lives based on the creation of new memories and the chance to just be kids again.

Please join me in my passionate support for Wildflower. Thank you for supporting my ride and, more importantly, for supporting Wildflower campers striving to heal after the loss of a parent.

With appreciation,
